The Brunswick at Saratoga: Soft Bed, Safe Haven for Hall of Fame Kentucky Derby Revelers

March 10th, 2018 by Brunswick B&B

The First Saturday in May is a near-holy day to we Saratogians, as we join with our kindred spirits in horse racing to celebrate the first leg of the Triple Crown:  the Kentucky Derby.

If you’re a fan of horse racing, you’ll celebrate the day with a party of some kind:  you may have a few friends over.  You may go to your local OTB parlor, to be among kindred-wagerers and pick up some tips.

Or, even though it’s only the 10th of March, you may be picking out your big hat and best bow tie already–prepping almost two months out for the grand Kentucky Derby Party at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame–right here, in Saratoga.  And The Brunswick at Saratoga Bed & Breakfast?  Why, we’re just 1/10 of a mile–not even a furlong–from the Racing Museum.

(We have a special relationship with the Museum and Hall of Fame:  our own Tom Amello is a lifelong horse racing analyst, and in fact will be on the Hall of Fame stage just one week before the Derby, to analyze the race and contenders for horse racing fans.  We don’t just own a B&B in this community–we’re part of the community.)

Drink that in:  the Museum’s party commences at 3:30PM on Saturday, May 5th.  You can decide, now, to stay with us for that night–or two–and not only get the deep-dish discount–but thereby assure also your own safety, and that of your date and others on the roads.

So here’s our offer to you who plan to celebrate Kentucky Derby 2018 with the wonderful folks at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame:

*  25% discount for a two-night stay, including two delicious three-course breakfasts
*  10% discount for a one-night stay, including a delicious three-course breakfast
Just to to the top of this page, and click on, Guest Rooms to explore our 10 rooms.
OR, click on this link:
Then–don’t use the reservations page, call us directly at (518) 584-6751 to check availability of your desired room, and book it.
Both the Hall of Fame folks and we want you to have a wonderful, fun, memorable Kentucky Derby Day–and celebrating at the Museum and Hall of Fame is the next-best-thing to being at Churchill Downs.
So please–take us up on our extraordinary offer.  Come, stay with us.  Park your car here when you check in–and then, simply walk less-than-a-furlong to the party.  After the roses are presented in the winner’s circle in Louisville, walk back and enjoy a cup of coffee.  Grab the ear of our Resident Racing Analyst (Tom), and spend the evening on our beautiful porch, reveling in the wonder of horse racing with a man who’s been a racing insider for over 30 years.  Not only is this the safest way to celebrate the Kentucky Derby–it’s the way to add warm memories; make new friends and get a good night’s sleep.
Thank you for considering the Brunswick at Saratoga, and celebrating the Kentucky Derby with us.  We’re eager to meet you, and Talk Horse.

Saratoga’s Not Actually a Small Town…but We’ll Take It. :)

February 24th, 2018 by Brunswick B&B

US News & World Report has just released its delightful list, 50 Beautiful Small Towns in America. Of course, Saratoga Springs is on that list–although, with a population of 30,000 and incorporation as a City–Saratoga Springs is hardly a “small town.”  (By comparison:  Sitka, Alaska, a delicious town also on the list, has a pop of about 7,000.  We’re guessing that the researcher who compiled the list of 50 lives on 23rd Street in Manhattan–and so, a place with “only” 30,000 full-time residents may indeed seem to be “small.”)

By the same token, the photo in the article that represents Saratoga Springs is not of Broadway; the Race Course; North Broadway or the funky-cool West Side.  Not even of our own glorious Union Avenue.  No, it seems that the Editor gave the instructions, “Make it look like a Midwestern corn field.  One house and a sunset.”

So we’ve provided here a few shots of the real life of our “small town,” and hope you’ll agree with us:  that Saratoga Springs is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.   (Hardly a place where tumbleweeds roll down the main drag.)  We hope you’ll check us out and agree, also that our home, The Brunswick at Saratoga Bed & Breakfast is high on your personal list–verily, the first hostelry that comes to mind when you think of Our Fair City.  Our single goal is nothing short of this:  helping you feel that our inn–and our “small town” are your home(s), too.

Chowderfest 2018 and The Brunswick at Saratoga: Eat, Sleep, Warm Your Bones.

January 27th, 2018 by Brunswick B&B

For 19 consecutive years,  Saratoga Springs restaurateurs have brought hot, delicious chowders to hungry, freezing souls in the dead of Winter.  Chowderfest offers Winter-weary spirits an opportunity to break the Cabin Fever Mold, and get out of the house.  Drive up (or down) the Northway, or perhaps visit Saratoga for the first time.

As in the 19 years before, Saratoga will again present Chowderfest:  this year’s date and time are Saturday, February 3, from 11AM – 4PM.  For a mere dollar per cup, Chowderheads can sample dozens of delicious, sweet, soul-warming chowders from most of Saratoga’s most renowned dining establishments.  Wrap your hands and your hearts around these steaming mugs, and dive in.

Then, vote for your favorite:  it’s a major point of pride for the establishments who win Chowderfest accolades every year.

After walking around Saratoga; shivering with your friends and taking notes on which chowder was best–you’ll be in need of a warm, cozy bed and hot cup of tea.  A brief walk from downtown, or short drive.  You may have been crowned, Queen of Chowder by your friends, for consuming the most cups–so you deserve to pamper yourself for all that hard work.  (And if you’re not still stuffed in the morning, a piping hot, gourmet breakfast will await you in our dining room.

Come to us, let us heat up your tired feet and stiff fingers.  Stay with us the night or weekend of February 3rd, and see just how cozy Saratoga can be.  We await your reservation in advance.  Call: (518) 584-6751 to reserve your room, today.  Feel the warmth over the phone, the same warmth you’ll drink in when you check into our unique inn.  🙂

Flurry Festers: Dance, Sing then Sleep, Break the Fast in Our Welcoming Saratoga Abode.

January 18th, 2018 by Brunswick B&B

As we dig out from under the small hillock of snow with which Mother Nature has painted our gorgeous Saratoga, we are reminded that, yes, Virginia–it IS only January.  And that means, we have at least two more months of Winter to stare down.  We can’t speak for others, but we just want to hunker down in a soft bed, with a hot cup of cocoa, and wait ’til the robins sing again…

But one of the delightful breaks in the Winter madness (which quickly morphs into Cabin Fever) happens every year during Presidents’ Day Weekend.  (An oxymoron, for sure:  is it a DAY, or a weekend?)  Regardless, it’s not really a tradition to pick up and go somewhere for Winter fun to celebrate the Presidents who are honored in February (can you name them, BTW?)–but, in 1994 the Dance Flurry Organization moved their annual folk/social dance festival to Saratoga–Presidents’ Day Weekend became a cause to celebrate.

Whether you love to contradance, Cajun, Scandinavian, African, English Country, Swing, Hip Hop, Jive, Ballroom, Tango or any of hundreds of other dance and music forms–there’s something for you at the 2018 edition of the Dance Flurry.  (See URL, below.)

And because The Brunswick at Saratoga Bed and Breakfast is a brief walk to the Saratoga City Center and other venues that serve as respositories of joy that weekend–we can offer a hot shower, warm bed and yummy breakfast each of the mornings of the Flurry.  (Let’s face it: after 12 hours of dancing–you’re going to need a shower.  And your bones will say, “Ahhhhh,” after that ablution, as you sink into one of our luxurious beds.)

The Dance Flurry begins the evening of Friday, February 16th and wraps up on Sunday night, the 18th.  But Monday is a national holiday here in the U.S.–so you probably have the day off.  Why not make your reservation, now, for Friday – Monday, and sleep in on the holiday?  (We’ve been folk dancing for over 50 years, so we know from experience that, after three days of dancing and running in-between dance classes–you do NOT feel up to driving home on Sunday evening.  OR catching a plane in Albany.)

Contact us at (518) 584-6751, and let us help make this one detail of your Dance Flurry Weekend easier.  Check in on Friday, and walk to Flurry events all weekend.  (With Saratoga parking, it’s a boon to be able to park your car in our lot, and leave it.)  We’ll happily accommodate dietary restrictions (gluten, etc.), and serve up the most elegant and filling breakfast in Saratoga each of the mornings you awaken in our little slice of Heaven.  We look forward to meeting you, and celebrating with you, the joy that only dance can instill in the human spirit.

Saratoga, Events and Accommodations: 365 Reasons to Book Here, Now.

December 27th, 2017 by Brunswick B&B

We know of many people who check out of their favorite Saratoga hostelry on every Labor Day (Saratoga Race Course’s Closing Day)–and reserve their room for the following year.  These savvy shoppers know that, as many hotels, inns and motels that lie within the city limits of our tiny, internationally-renowned town–there may not be a room available for Travers Week next year–or all of racing season, for that matter–unless they jump on it, 365 days in advance.

Well, the cool thing about being a beautiful bed and breakfast in Saratoga–across from the Thoroughbred track and a casual walk to (literally) hundreds of restaurants, taverns, shops and attractions–is that Saratoga is hoppin’ all 365 of every year.

We have horses.  In spades.  But we also have opera, theatre, ballet, modern dance, musea, Shakespeare, regattas, fireworks, parades, healing waters, spas, celebrations and parties every-other-day, it seems.  Saratoga is The Consummate Tourist Town–and only about 30,000 of us are fortunate enough actually to live here all year ’round.

So that leaves the rest of you with the rather exciting burden of sifting through the options, and finding the perfect bed in which to rest your weary bones at the end of your action-packed Saratoga Days.

But today--this December 27th, of 2017–today is the day that you should start thinking about your ideal Saratoga Vacation. Whether that’s a quiet, romantic weekend; a week centered around an activity or event or an escape from your current reality–if you’re coming to Saratoga in 2018, today is the day:

The day to get out your calendar.
Talk to your S.O. about 2018, and the time(s) you’ll have free.
OR, the events you absolutely need to attend.

Then, with that information firmly written in INK in your calendar:  SARATOGA, you call us at The Brunswick at Saratoga Bed and Breakfast, and line up your room for your chosen date(s).

2018 is just a few days away–literally.  And you do NOT want to be left out in the cold–or the searing heat, depending on season.  You want to dance merrily into the New Year, secure in the knowledge that all your hard work, all year-round will be rewarded–the minute you put up your  feet in your own, special room here at our place on Union Avenue.

Carpe Diem, people.  Tempus fugit.  (For those of you who didn’t take Medieval Latin at Skidmore:  “Seize the day, people.  Time flies.”)   🙂

To inspire you to quit pussyfootin’ around, and jump on it, check out this article posted this morning by Todd Garofano of the Saratoga Convention & Tourism Bureau.  Apparently, 175 events already are booked at the Saratoga Springs City Center.  Wowie-zowie.

…and that’s just the City Center.  That’s not all the other places and organizations that are (even at this moment) nailing down their dates for next year.  (I just received a Save the Date card for a Saratoga event–on August 10th.  It was postmarked over two weeks ago.)

And here are hundreds of events, as listed on the ‘site of the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce:

Note that most days, several events and activities overlap:  oh, dear, more decisions to make!

So now that you’re thoroughly overwhelmed, fear not.  We are here for you.  We’re on your side.  We want you to have the most enjoyable, restful night’s sleep after a full day or eve of going/doing/seeing.  And the Early Bird may get the worm, but you and your loved ones need a delicious, gourmet breakfast served up piping hot in a safe, cozy, beautiful, embracing B&B on Union Avenue.  That is to say, you deserve to break the fast after a deep slumber here at The Brunswick at Saratoga Bed and Breakfast–and our Chef/Owner delights in creating Fare from the Heart.

You deserve to be here–and, as much as every message on social media demands that you be distracted crushing candies or posting selfies–you simply must extract yourself from your yakking AI long enough to speak to an actual human, or at least email an actual human–and make your reservation here for all your Saratoga Escapes.

(S)he who hesitates is lost, as they say…and those who reserve their rooms for 2018 no–are wise.  Those who hesitate will be lost in 2018…driving up and down the Northway through the black Adirondack nights, just to get to a motel room.  But for those of you who hesitate not, and reserve with us in time to get the room you want, at the time you desire:   we promise all fun, no stress, sweets and treats served in a serene environment.

Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year, from all of us at The Brunswick at Saratoga Bed and Breakfast.

Frenzied Shoppers: Your Last-Minute Gift Problem, Solved in 60 Seconds

December 22nd, 2017 by Brunswick B&B

It’s the Friday before Christmas, 2017.  YIKES.

You’re stressing:  either your boss is a Scrooge, and won’t let anyone leave work ONE SINGLE MINUTE before 5PM.  OR, you’re trying your level-best to talk yourself into driving around–again–and shopping in person.  You know that this option will turn you into a wild-eyed, frustrated, maniac who inhales Seattle’s darkest in one gulp.

Now there’s a snow storm.  You can’t see out your kitchen window.  If you are nuts enough to go outside, that fool’s errand will end in you, sitting on a highway or main street, which now is a parking lot.

You’ll scream, but no one will hear you because all windows are rolled up, and everyone else is screaming, as well.

Here’s what you do:  STAY HOME, Possums.

Stay home.
Be comfy.
Fire up your computer.
NOW…look here, on the ‘site for The Brunswick at Saratoga Bed and Breakfast–and see that, in a matter of mere moments–from the warmth of your home, as you drink hot cocoa and wear bunny slippers–you can buy THE BEST Christmas (or, fill-in-your-holiday, HERE) — gift, EVER.

You can give a gift certificate for your loved one (family member, friend, boss, co-worker)–to rest, relax and refresh in the lovely Brunswick at Saratoga.  And the gift certificate (unlike a Chia Pet)–actually is a welcome gift.  A gift that will give your dear one time to think about when they can make their escape to Saratoga–to get excited about their trip–and to anticipate the quiet beauty that awaits them here at our historic Bed and Breakfast.

You get to maintain your sanity.
You get to stay home, and not spend an entire day trying to fight your way to get to a store.  A store where you’ll try to buy something that’s no longer in stock.  And where the salesgirl will hate you, because SHE has shopping to do, too.

AND–your loved one will receive a gift that they’ll actually LOVE.

You need to do this.  Because the people you love, deserve your very best.  Because YOU deserve to stay sane, stay home and bake cookies.

And because…Chia Pets are SO 1960s.

One click, and you’re done:

You’re welcome.  🙂

And…Merry Christmas – Happy Festivus — Joyous Holidays, to all, from all of us at The Brunswick at Saratoga Bed and Breakfast.  <3

First Night at The Brunswick at Saratoga Bed & Breakfast: Perfection, Personified

December 12th, 2017 by Brunswick B&B

To quote Ella Fitzgerald:  “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?”

If you’re venturing forth to Saratoga Springs, New York for our singularly-fabulous First Night celebration, there’s only one hostelry in town that offers the quietude that you’ll need–and delightful snacks–as you steel yourself for stepping out, into the frigid Adirondack night.

And, after freezing your nose and toes, and carrying roasted chestnuts and the memory of petting a reindeer into the next year–you’re going to need a deep, quiet sleep.  An overnight hibernation, of sorts:  Return to your warm room here at The Brunswick at Saratoga Bed & Breakfast.  Snuggle into your inviting bed…hunker down, and sleep deeply.  Then, arise on New Year’s Day to a luscious breakfast that feeds not only your body, but your soul, as well.

If you’re going to start 2018 with a new resolve, let it be to treat others as you’d like to be treated, yourself.  And to do that, you have to be good to yourself, first–and kicking off the year with a great night’s sleep and gourmet breakfast raises the bar for the New Year.  This year, instead of commuting in the freezing cold after a night of revelry in downtown Saratoga Springs–decide, now, to spend it here, with us.  We’ll help you feel all warm and toasty, and ready to take on 2018 and all it has to offer.

Four rooms are available, as I write this:  C, 3, 6 and 7.  Tempus fugit, friends–Time flies!  Now is the time to reserve your hibernation den for First Night in Saratoga–and your personal resolve, to kick off the next year of your life relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated.

Contact us, we’re here to answer your questions and take your reservation:  (518) 584-6751
